ISP Services

TIX (Tuscany Internet eXchange), as a Tuscan Neutral Access Point (NAP), was established as a point of interconnection between the Rete Telematica Regione Toscana (RTRT) and the Internet service providers (ISP – Internet Service Provider) in Tuscany. The aim is to combine the benefits received from having a public administration network strongly interconnected with those of a territorial coverage providing for guaranteed and controlled services for the entire community served by accredited ISPs.

According to NAP management at TIX 2.0, the following services are provided for ISPs:

• supervising any ISPs actions in order to prevent damages one over the other;

• Reception at TIX 2.0; spaces and technical resources assignment; technical information, passive network maintenance support (patch panels, network patches certifications, etc.);

• Management of NAP’s traffic matrix related to peering arrangements between accredited ISPs;

• network traffic analysis of NAP’s switches in order to identify any abnormal behaviours not
  running in line with the rules of NAP.

ISPs that wish to join TIX must follow an accreditation procedure according to the related bid. Accredited ISPs must guarantee minimum quality standards for providing internet connectivity services to Public Authorities in Tuscany, and more precisely to extended RTRT users.
